archive as Interpretation
This section is about interpretations; to be more precise, it’s about how the same person’s role and story are told in different eras and standpoints. For example, during Taiwan’s dictatorship, the ruler was praised and worshipped while he was alive and even after this death. But when democracy slipped into the society and the public welcomed conflicting voices, the same “hero” who saved Taiwan from Communist China had been dragged down from the pedestal and spat on. Perspectives have shifted.
What I’m trying to convey here is the notion of one’s own “truth.” In this post-truth era that people are more likely to accept an argument based on their emotions and beliefs rather than one based on facts, truth itself matters no more (or doesn’t even exist.) Despite what is told, rational analysis through coherent thoughts is the factor that allows one to sleep tight at night and keep a clear conscience in terms of defining a person or incident. The content of this section are challenges and doubts towards the “truth” told by authoritarian and seen as absolute explanation.
